Testimonials

"Had a wonderful tuning and keyboard service which has now made my piano play like a dream.

Now that Steve has fitted a practice pedal I can play even longer!"

Billy Walsh 5/2/21

“Steve did a great job on my piano, which hadn't been tuned for over 5 years and had just been moved from the north of the country. Serviced the keyboard and action, fixed a broken string and tuned with real care and attention to the age of the instrument - put some solid hours into it! I learnt a lot about pianos along the way and Steve was great about explaining everything he was doing. Would definitely recommend, especially if your piano needs some TLC.”

Emma Cooper 10/2/21

“Steve is so knowledgeable, professional and diligent. He did a full day of work with my piano with a full keyboard service and tuning. The price was a lot less than expected for the time he took on my piano.

The result is a piano that 10 times nicer to play with reactive keys and more range and depth in the volume of the piano.

I would definitely use Steve again for my piano maintenance”

Katie Goodliffe 20/3/21

“Great service, my piano sounds so much brighter now. Very informative, friendly and knowledgeable too.”

Jessica Toogood 20/4/21

Services

Fine Tuning

Usage and environment can affect the frequency of fine tuning, which is typically between 6-12 months. An assessment enables an accurate scope and frequency of work to be determined and can be adapted according to the clients' needs.

Pitch Raising

If an instrument has not been tuned for several years, a pitch raise will be performed to reach the desired pitch. A second tuning pass for fine tuning completes the process. The stability of the instrument will be assessed and if required, a follow up visit ensures the tuning is stabilised.

Regulation

Adjustments to the instrument are termed regulation and common examples are - damper regulation, checking distances, let off, blow distance, adjustment of key dip, key levelling, keyboard servicing and voicing.

Other Services

Hammers

Hammer work includes refacing, string mating, casting, travelling and hammer spacing.

Minor Repairs

Damaged or broken strings are replaced as well as other minor repairs.

Casework Detailing

Casework polishing, brass work, replacement of pedal felts and nameboard, removal of scratches.

Light Refurbishment

Light refurbishment such as damper springs, hammer and butt, flange re-centring, replacement of bridle tapes, replacement of broken hammers and key bushings.

How often should I have my piano tuned?

Before we delve in deep into the specifics, it's important you get your fundamentals right and truly understand when it is the right time to look for piano repairs.

The precise answer for how often you should get your piano tuned depends on your piano's usage and condition. If you play several hours every day and need to ensure you offer the best possible performance, it is recommended to tune pianos once a week. It is an ideal way to increase the longevity of your favourite instrument and enjoy playing instead of bothering with repairs that are relatively harder to fix.

However, if you are an occasional piano player who plays piano for fun, it is ideal to have your piano tuned at least once or twice a year. As for family piano players, if you have a child learning to play the piano, you should tune your piano no less than every 6 months.

Another thing to bear in mind is the humidity and temperature factor that has the potential to cause permanent damage to your pianos. The environment around any instrument plays a huge role in making or breaking the health of your piano.

Seasons with high humidity are known to swell the soundboard and loosens the piano strings, eventually leading to deteriorating the quality of performance over time. It’s definitely worth considering piano services near you from a qualified technician to keep your piano in exceptional shape.
